Comics

Hombre by Antonio Segura and José Ortiz
Cover used under fair use criterion.

Without doubt I had to begin this section talking about Hombre, with scripts by Antonio Segura (1947-2012) and illustrations by José Ortiz (1932-2013).

In this work the civilization ends due to energy resources exhaustion, natural disasters and a series of wars which culminate in the fall of states, with survivors organized in small groups or alone. The series' protagonist, known only as Hombre, is a cynical and lonely character who doesn't doubt to use violence whenever it's necessary and has a not very flattering opinion about his fellow humans.

Legend of Mother Sarah by Katsuhiro Ōtomo and Takumi Nagayasu
Cover used under fair use criterion.

Another work which really worthy to be included in this list is Legend of Mother Sarah, with scripts by Katsuhiro Ōtomo and illustrations by Takumi Nagayasu.

In this series the protagonist, the Sarah giving name to the series, roams a desert planet Earth devastated by nuclear war searching her 3 child, lost after getting separated from them after leaving one of the space colonies in orbit which sheltered part of the last survivors of the human species.

I have to admit I don't usually read manga because this style of comics usually not call my attention, but Legend of Mother Sarah is a series which is really above the average due to character's description in the script written by Ōtomo, because he achieves to give them a great humanity not without its lights and its shadows.

El Cazador de Rayos by Kenny Ruiz
Cover used under fair use criterion.

I also suggest you to read El cazador de rayos by Kenny Ruiz, a manga style work created in Europe showing us a world surrounded by a shroud of clouds and eternal raining where survivors wish the profecy of the chosen one by the Sun, The Ray Hunter, to be fulfilled and put to an end the darkness and give them back the Light.

Basura by Carlos Trillo and Juan Gimenez
Cover used under fair use criterion.

Within the Spanish American comic it's worth noting Basura, with script by Carlos Trillo and illustrations by Juan Gimenez, showing our planet turned to a huge garbage dump, with a city inhabited by a hypocritical and manipulative elite which continue to pollute with their residues without seeming to care that people live in landfills (in short, a warning about the future that awaits us at the rate we're going).

DMZ by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli
Cover used under fair use criterion.

To finish this section about comics I also suggest the DMZ series, created by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli, with speculation about how north-american citizens will react in case of declaration of a second civil war with the characteristics of those conflicts in which the USA had been involved in last years.

The main scenario of the series is located in the city of New York (more specifically the island of Manhattan, transformed into a demilitarized zone full of civilians who have not been able to escape the fighting) and it can be useful to study the relationships between the characters in a sieged city divided in different sectors, whether being territories of gangs, neighbourhoods that have closed in on themselves for protection or other influence zones as the conflict progresses.

Films and computer games

As you may see in this Youtube playing list that heads this section cinema and computer games can also be a great inspirational source for creating the story of your adventures in the ruined world of fRáGiL, next you will find a list of links to Wikipedia and IMDb to obtain more information about these suggestions (and the original soundtrack of Mad Max: Fury Road can also serve as accompaniment during your gaming sessions).
