Lamentations of the Flame Princess (Third Part)
In this third and final part of the review of Lamentations of the Flame Princess (Grindhouse Edition) by James Raggi (first part of the review in this link and second one in this other one) I will talk about of the third book of the game, devoted concretely to game tutorials.
First you will find chapters introducing role-playing games to newbies and explaining distinct types of dice of these kind of games.
Immediately afterwards the book offers two introductory adventures for one player designed to transmit beginning players rule’s basic rudiments. First one is pretty easy and permits a quick introduction to the game and its rules, second one is designed as a game-book like Choose Your Adventure type being a bit more complex and more important in combat and map using.
After these adventures you will find a pair of chapters for clarifying concepts and situations you would find while playing and a commented sample of a game session (you also will find useful to look up the glossary of the back cover of this book).
For an ending Raggi make known writers which works had significantly influenced him when creating this game, that includes classical ones as Clive Barker, Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber, H. P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Clark Ashton Smith, J.R.R. Tolkien, Jack Vance, Jules Verne and H.G. Wells.
As a final thought I recommend Lamentations of the Flame Princess Princess in case you are interested in fantasy with a dark touch, works of some of the writers of this literary genre or games like Call of Cthulhu (in fact it could be considered that Lamentations is the equivalent of it for games of the Old School sphere).
