Black Box: La Llamada de los dioses - Session 15

With this post I'm going on with the campaign log of La Llamada de los dioses I'm refereeing for my regular game group at La Cofradía del rol, for previous campaign sessions you may read these links: #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 #7 #8 #9 #10 #11 #12 #13 #14

As always remember you may find spoilers, so if you are playing the campaign or think about playing it you probably do not want to read more beyond this point (or perhaps you want, who knows).

As I had explained before players are actively cooperating in the creation of these campaign reports, this time the chronicler assistant had been Kris (who right now is playing Luna the half-elf), it's also important to note that in this session Aradum's character was played by Martí a new player who will have his own character in the next session.

In the previous session the group had confronted another orc party coming to investigate their infiltration, and easily defeated them thanks to the ruses they had deployed.

While her partners decided to follow the path from which the orcs came Luna decided to go back to visit the mirror room where they had encountered the strange multiform creature (as esxplained in session #13) to investigate whether they had overlooked any important clue without being able to discover anything interesting.

And what discovered her partners meanwhile she was busy with her inquires? They reached a cave inhabited by a strange creature crawling in the floor which didn't stop to change and reform itself, showing many eyes steadily appearing and disappearing as well as some mouths emanating a cacophony of sounds and incomprehensible languages, also populated with a lot of dangerous looking teeth (well, a little more and looks like a shoggoth).

The monster pounced over them of course and began to attack with its jaws, bitting Kai while the rest of the group, including Luna (just coming in time to see the beginning of the Dantesque battle), began to vicisously hack and slash the creature until Grognak managed to kill it (of course Aradum continued his habit of pulling out a tooth of the fallen enemy).

Following the tunnels they discovered something that left them puzzled: a cave with a little lake with an isle in the middle, with a dried tree by time and a raft in the shore...Aradum Meler and Luna decided to get on the raft to croos the lake and see the isle, to be secure the corageous group decided would be tied by a rope (yes, the whole group together...) so Grognak and Kai could pull them in case of danger...

When they had already leaved, and in the middle of the lake, something struck the raft underneath and made them capsize, all of them falling into water, allowing them to check that the attacker was a white shark going for them at full speed seeing the juicy feast at its disposal, wrapped like a gift so to speak, and all the matter would certainly ended in a Total Party Kill for the three characters who were splashing in the water right then: neither them or his companions were able to hit the shark enough times nor give enough damage (at risk of their life), besides their companions took a long time to pull them (those runs that did not quite work...) and the shark had already bitten Meler's side, but luckily Luna get to cut the rope freeing them, moment they used to swim or grab the ropes ends which Grognak and Kai threw to them, although all this couldnt prevent the shark from ripping Aradum's left arm...

After this encounter with the white shark characters were about to desist and forget the mistery the lake and the isle may hide, but then Grognak saw sideways a female shape seeming to coming from the damaged tree's inside who began to talk although they could not hear any sound coming from her lips. Meler, able to read lips, soon could find she was a dryad who had been cursed and condemned to live imprisoned in the tree with no possibility of escape because of the threat posed by the white shark.

Characters decided to try to liberate the dryad, although of course they didn't want to dive into the lake, so they decided to use a bait to lure the shark and use their bows and an improvised harpoon thye had built to end once and for all with the shark. What I didn't expected (and sometimes one thinks of how the hell players come up with these things 樂 ❓ ☺) they decided to use parts of the multiform monster they faced before, so when Grognak threw to the water some creature remains and the shark swiftly came to devour them it was time of deciding what was about to happen and after the appropriate dice roll (wich was unsuccesful) a rather unusual series of phenomenons began to take place: they began to listen some strange and familiar voices and soon realized the animal's mouth seemed to change to adopt a shape resembling one they had already seen before, soon identifying it as the one of the multiform monster, if we add their attacks to kill the shark didn't have the desired success and that the creature began to respond to them by spitting toward the characters (one of the spits hit Grognak, though without any consequence) the situation didn't seem to have an easy solution so they were forced to reconsider their options.

But suddenly everything was solved when a short burst of light flooded the lake and the cave causing the shark to finally perish, something that happened shortly after Luna had been kneeling near the edge of the water ... After the disappearance of the danger threatening her the dryad crossed the lake and with a smile of thanks she gave them a glowing wand before disappearing before their eyes.

After this thrilling encounter characters went back a little in the network of tunnels and continued to explore, reaching a cave where the inhabitants of the underground complex had arranged an enclosure to store different gallinaceous species to be used as food, including a strange bird and larger than its fellows which Grognak easily identified as a cockatrice, a bird of unknown origin witch has the distinction of paralyzing its victims with a peck but at first not being aggresive unless provocked. something the group wisely avoided.

Although the orcs which later ran into were more aggresive and soon engaged in combat which reduced their numbers to the half due to player attacks, something that caused his flight but with such bad luck that the orcs overran the enclosure angering the cockatrice, which quickly proceeded to paralyze-pecking anyone within its grasp, so now the characters are running again for the tunnels fearful of the angry bird attacking them.
