Black Box: La Llamada de los dioses – Session 3

Going on with the campaign log of La Llamada de los dioses I'm refereeing for my regular game group at La Cofradía del rol, for previous campaign sessions you may read these links: #1 #2

As always remember you may find spoilers, so if you are playing the campaign or think about playing it you probably do not want to read more beyond this point (or perhaps you want, who knows).

As I explained you in the last session, players are aboard the Sombra Rauda and are trying to return to Salmanasar, they got rid of the annoying presence of a certain reanimated corpse, an old crew member already dead that came aboard. Nevertheless the next two nights they had again the visit of more corpses insisting to come aboard (and the cleric continued to fail the expulsion rolls... ಠ_ಠ), so they had to combat and threw them away.

It was foreseeable that the following night a third visit will come (something that Meler nailed with the successful use of Arcane wisdom) and Morkhan asked himself from where those corpses came, so Luna agreed to dive tied up with a line and inspect under the keel, confirming all their suspicions: a lot of bloated corpses floated under the ship and was following it with the aid of the current. When Morkhan knew it he tried an expulsion again and finally (yes!) ha managed to get rid of the spirit animating them.

Was it the end of the problems of our tired heroes? Of course not, this same night they had a visit again, in this case marine humanoid creatures looking like fish (no, they weren't Deep Ones) coming aboard with the clear intention of seizing it, so they confronted them in a new combat but Luna tried to do something to stop the attackers, and whatever it was it seemed to work for a moment (and the other characters began to suspect her). During the combat Kai rolled again some critical hits as always, but this not avoided Morkhan to be seriously wounded first and dead later for with the characters getting despaired (We are left without a cleric !!), but Luna had an idea about what to do and asked the rest of the group to left her alone with the corpse of Morkhan and achieved an state where the healthing potions acumulated from previous sessions helped to cure him (this also made the group to be more suspicios about Luna...).

But the worries of the characters did indeed increase with the next meeting, this time wasn't something like simple corpses or little fishes... Soon sucker-filled tentacles began to attack the ship, seeking to destroy it and trap the players driving them to a mouth full of teeth eager to devour them... The creature of course was a Kraken and managed to trap all the characters but Luna, that was able to escape given her agility and good rolls.

All seemed lost, heldenhammer was already inside the maw of the beast and he began to be devoured and the rest soon would be when the unexpected comes and the beast free them and afterwards quickly moves away.

While they recover from the fright of having been close to death they watched as the ocean's waters formed a giant figure who identified himself as the god Eru, son of Aegïr, one of the many names with which is known Valion (see the last part of this article of Codex de la Marca), imploring their help to recover the source of his power: a trident gift from his father which had been taken away by trickery by mysterious clerics and taken to an island beyond his reach. Characters, recognizing in giant's face the mysterious cleric Brune (and that somehow responded to the premonitions that Meler had in the previous session), accepted the mission that the deity proposed them (*) and him, using the power he had left, pushed the ship to its destination...

When we finished the session we did a recount of experience points for the players and saw that Heldenhammer had managed to level up to 3 and I proceeded to make the corresponding adjustments of the character.

What will happen in the next session?

As is customary to say:

To be continued...

(*) Although Heldenhammer tried to fiddle with Eru like a simple merchant ಠ_ಠ
