Black Box: La Llamada de los dioses - Session 24

As always remember you may find spoilers, so if you are playing the campaign or think about playing it you probably do not want to read more beyond this point (or perhaps you want, who knows).

To write the chronicle of this session I was helped by Amaia, who acted as a notary during its development.

After the events happening in teh previous session it was time to know the vision Alanna experienced after gazing into the sphere defended so viciously by the dragon creature liying in wait inside the magic darkness. The answer to this mistery is a crystal chrysalis in the middle of a room full of books in shelves, books which must contain secrets or information which, who knows, perhaps may be useful.

Before continuing the trip the group decided it was appropiate to somehow protect the chrystal sphere, which was again over the pedestal. To achieve it Hassba proposed to encircle it with poisoned nails, something young Flynn considered appropriate given the circumstances.

When all were ready to return to their mission they realized that in a nearby room were 3 clerics and 4 orcs, so all the group members (except belacqua, who decided to hide) got dressed as clerics taking advantage of the ropes the previous members of the group gathered during their adventures in previous sessions. This fact allowed them to go unnoticed and follow the way until finding a palisade protected by an ogre, Hassba and Luna tried to cheat him using their robes and giving false orders like abandon his assignment, but it seems they weren't very persuasive, bacause he and his pal at the other side, who peeped out with his awful face through the pallisade's half-torn door, didn't think it appropriate to leave their guard posts.

Seeing it was impossible to convince them to cease in their strong dedication the characters dedided to use more direct methods, so they soon engaged in a fight and Hassba showed his prowess helping finishing both ogres, though it wasn't a very quiet action, so the noise attracted the atention of the group of monks and orcs they had seen before, who demanded to know what was going on, so Hassba tried to deceive them explaining he was taking Belacqua as a prisoner, unsuccessfully because they didn't swallow the lie so a new fight took place, inaugurated by Luna killing with only one strike one of the orcs (good roll!).

The fight that followed had some rather motley outcomes and incidences, because an orc rolled a fumble and killed one of the clerics while the other clerics where more efficient and paralyzed Luna with their spells and Hassba crossbow got broken. Belacqua decided to quickly finish with the situation using her Sleep spell to affect everybody, falling asleep Alanna and all the enemies except one of the clerics, So Luna used one of his mysterious abilities even paralyzed to kill all the clerics and one of the orcs, being the most visible sign of their condition that they began to ooze blood from the mouth and nose. Shortly after Alanna got out of his lethargy and quickly finished one of the orcs with a good sword stroke and Luna, free from the Paralyze spell effects, achieved to take down another fleeing orc with an accurate arrow on his back.

While the group was registering the corpses searching for treasure or other useful objects Luna recalled a detail that had gone unnoticed, and it is that the initials TG that she had seen traced with blood in one of the doors with the shape of a demonic head could correspond to Teniente Gascón (Lieutenant Gascón), a comrade in arms of their times in the Sombra Rauda (Swift Shadow) which they believed to be dead...

They continue on their way and finally reach the antechamber ledaing to the library they are looking for, but before they could enter appears a manticore saying they shall not pass unless they answer a riddle. The monster says it... and luckily for them Hassba gets to answer it correctly (damn!, I have really clever players), so the creature retreats and they go into the library.

The library is certainly amazing due to the great number of books inside, but it's even more the crystal chrysalis the characters find in the middle of the room, this chrysalis holds inside a girl who soon is freed when Luna presses a spring in the container's base and Alanna holds her to so she does not fall to the ground, While the girl begins to awaken appear by surprise a bit unpleasant inhabitants of the library, because a swarm of 10 rats and 2 rather big black widows, of course being upset for strangers showing up, are bound to attack the intruders, but these vermines did not pose much danger to the characters because Luna, using again her mysterious powers, finished the rats abruptly and Alanna took care of both spiders with two strokes of sword (in this combat neither Hassba or Belacqua were't very inspired becaus both fumbled their rolls and they hit each other).

Once the combat was finished the characters decided to rest and resupply, moment in which Hassba decided to collect the venom from the spiders getting enough to fill a vial of poison, Luna repaired Hassba's crossbow and Belacqua took a look at the library discovering some magic books she would be interested in reading.
