Crowdfunding of Sturm und Drang

As I did some days ago in Google+ and Twitter today I will talk about the crowdfunding of Sturm und Drang, the new game by Grupo Creativo La Marca del Este with the setting in the Walküre universe and this time centered in events which happened during the Second World War.

If you want to know more about Walküre you can freely download the pdf of of the basic game (note: it is written in Spanish).

To write this article I had access to a previous draft of contents thanks to Grupo Creativo La Marca del Este which was kind enough to provide me.

Sturm und Drang will be available as a box with the following contents:
  • Campaign book (400 pages).
  • CdB Engine ruleset book (130 pages).
  • Ruleset book Manual to play the setting using the game Savage Worlds (32 pages).
  • Three A1 maps with Europe and Asia battle fronts and the city map of Berlin in 1944.
  • The adventure Ucieczka z Sobiboru (Escape from Sobibor) (32 pages).

The campaign book and the CdB Engine ruleset (created by Zonk PJ) are offered under CC BY-SA license, so it's possible to create derived materials even commercially, this fact also makes easy to use all the material used in the campaign book as a basis to create didactical materials for history classes (a note for readers form outside Spain: there's also a 74 € reward for those living in foreign countries which includes paid shipping costs, so if you are learning Spanish language it may be interesting for you).

Regarding the other ruleset available in the box, Savage Worlds has been created by Pinacle Entertainment Group and is published in Spain by HT Publishers.

Inside the campaign book you will find a complete chronology from 1933 to 1944 adapting real world facts to this alternate history (if you want to know more about alternate history you may read these two Wikipedia articles: Alternate History and Counterfactual history).

And talking about alternate history you also may be interested in some examples which are similar to what Walküre proposes: Novels Fatherland by Robert Harris and The Man in the High Castle by Phillip K. Dick.

Regarding the adventure types it will be possible to create using the Sturm und Drang box you may think in something like the Wolfenstein video games saga (something easy using the Savage Worlds ruleset) or focus on adventures closer to the real events, this pointing to the Call of Duty saga and films and TV series like Stalingrad, A Bridge Too far, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers or The Pacific without forgetting classics like The Guns of Navarone or The Train.

Of course you also will find useful to know more about the era, so I advise you to consult Wikipedia to begin with: Category:World War II.

In addition to the chronology the campaign book also will offer an extensive encyclopedic treatise about vehicles and weaponry of the struggle along with a great number of unpublished historical color photos, maps and graphics, so it will be possible to find information, for instance, to aircraft like the Supermarine Spitfire, armored vehicles like the soviet T-34 or the German machine gun MG 42 to put a few examples.

I already had talk about the campign book and the rulest books, so now it's time to talk about the adventures which will be included in the game's box.

The first adventure is Ucieczka z Sobiboru (Escape from Sobibór), based in the getaway from this extermination camp which happened in 2 October 1943.

If the game is funded and reach the stretch goal of having the two rulesets printed in color (ie, the €24,000 stretch goal is reached) it will open the way to get more adventures.

First one will be Objective: Burma!, starring OSS Detachment 101 (possible reaching the €25,500 stretch goal).

Second one will be Les Marguerites Fleuriront ce Soir, starring French Resistance (possible reaching the €27,000 stretch goal).

If everything goes well and the project is successful new adventures will be published: Địa đạo Củ Chi (Tunnels of Cu-Chi), Цинк (Zinc) and Katanga 235 as weel as more titles (I advise you to read the crowdfunding's blog).

To finish I ask you to support this project and give it publicity if you have found it interesting, crowdfundings by Grupo Creativo La Marca del Este always had been successful and always lead to excellent products.
