In today`s post I will talk about the Traveller role-playing game, which will be published in Catalan thanks to the crowdfunding at Verkami carried out by Calapopa, a parallel project of Maqui Edicions.
Traveller is the grandfather of science-fiction rpg, it was written by Marc Miller and published first in 1977 by the American publisher Game Designer's Workshop (GDW) and had a lot of editions since then.
This game allow you to live adventures in your favorite science-fiction universes (books, films or TV series), create your own universe or play in its reference setting: The Third Imperium.
In other words, you can travel to forbidden planets, to a galaxy far, far away, to boldly go where no one has gone before or where no one can hear you scream...
as well as seeing the dawn of the Third Age of Mankind, migrate to new solar systems in a future with a mix of Chinese culture and Far West or discover that wormholes really exist as well as fold space to travel to a planet named Arrakis, also known as Dune.
To achieve this Traveller offers the following tools:
- A character creation system based in careers, including psychic powers.
- All kind of spaceships.
- The possibility to create solar systems with its planets and civilizations.
The crowdfunding also have planned to unlock a series of very interesting goals:
- The book in hardcover.
- Supplements for ships, equipment and vehicles in pdf.
- Adventures in pdf.
A good place to begin with is the website Atomic Rockets, created by Winchell Chung, which offers a lot of information for all interested in science-fiction with a scientific and real touch.
I also would advise you to watch the television series Cosmos (the original as well as the sequels):
and short films like Wanderers, also inspired by Carl Sagan
without forgetting films and television series like
and short films of channel Dust, which I'm sure will inspire you.
To finish I remind you that the crowdfunding of Traveller already has 60% raised and that if you like science-fiction and rpg you can help to fulfill it.
This entry it's also available in the following languages:
Castellano Català
