Today, and taking advantage of Sant Jordi coming soon, I will offer you a little sample of roleplaying activities developed in Catalan language thanks to people and groups that offered to collaborate in the creation of this post, I also offer you a list of publishers of fantasy and science fiction books in Catalan.

But first I would like you to read the following note:

Mercè Sarrió Raluy (1974 - 2022)

While I was preparing this post I knew of the decease the past April 15th of Mercè Sarrió Raluy (also known at Twitter as Mercè Mrs. Death), one of the persons that cofounded Tirant lo dau, after suffering an extremely serious bone cancer, as Pau Blackonion communicated through this Twitter thread the same day.

Here I would like to offer my condolences to Pau and the other people taking part in Tirant lo dau, as well as Mercè's family and friends.

If you want to leave a condolence message in the space enabled here or go to the Twitter thread I linked before.

Maqui Edicions

Maqui Edicions is a publisher label by From Zero specialized in roleplaying games, which had been publishing continuosly from year 2008. Our publisher's policy consists in the will of their founders to create a corpus of roleplaying games in Catalan, until then almost non-existent, bringing into the market the new tendencies in roleplaying games, as well as the most classical games.

In our catalogue you will find among other ones, from great international hits like Icones, El Monstre de la Setmana or Microscopi, to independent games like La meva vida amb l'amo, ItrasBy or Sistema Solar, and other ones like our own creations Ximpleries or Món de Monstres. Also, we have a collection of translations of small games which can be freely downloaded from the Pot petit.

You can find our games via our website as well as in some on-line and physical shops.

Rol ràpid

Rol ràpid is a youtube channel bringing fast reviews of roleplaying games in Catalan. The idea is to condense the game essence and give a quick stroke and a personal opinion with a humourous touch, so roleplayers will have an idea about the game, without having to swallow hours and hours of petty chatter or having to read solid walls of text. If you are a roleplayer in a hurry and want to know if you would like a game this is your channel.

Revista Catarsi

The magazine Catarsi is the non-profit publication by the Societat Catalana de Ciència-Ficció i Fantasia.

Created in the year 2008 and published for the first time in 2009, its goal is to promote fantasy genres in Catalan language. To achieve this it had carried out collaborations with other organizations like Associació de Relataires en Català, Club Star Trek, Escola d’Escriptura de l’Ateneu Barcelonès or Tirant lo Dau.

The magazine is nourished with sent works and, though mostly of these are tales and some articles, it's open to any kind of collaborations: tale, theater, comic, poetry, essay or any other ways you would like to get involved. We have been lucky to enjoy texts from authors like Carme Torras, Mike Resnik, Cat Rambo, Salvador Macip or Susana Vallejo and illustrators like Laia Baldevey, Enrique Corominas or Ramon Rosanas.

The magazine is distributed to members of the Societat, but it can be bought for free in digital format at Lektu; printed at Gigamesh, La Gralla or asking for it sending a message to revista.catarsi@gmail.com.

We are waiting for you!

You can follow us at Twitter @revistacatarsi and the address of the blog is http://www.catarsi.cat.

Tirant lo dau

El Dado Inquieto has suggested us to write a little post to explain you what is Tirant lo dau, why we exist and what we do, now that Sant Jordi is coming and the dragons begin to move at the other side of the mirror, knowing that the dates are auspicious. And we will do this gladly, thanking this space and inviting all of you to take part in our project.

Tirant lo dau is a non-profit organization appearing mid-2020 with the goal of promoting roleplaying in Catalan language, born while talking about the diglossia phenomenon in roleplaying and what to do to normalize it. People like Pau Blackonion and Mercè Mrs. Death began to pull some strings in their wide contact networks, and in no time, Tirant lo dau was born: a small Catalan language roleplaying community articulated in a Telegram channel that had been growing slowly but steady and doing things.

And what we do? Well, a bit of everything. As we said, our raison d'être is to promote roleplaying in Catalan, and we consider that to achieve it we have many options available:
  • Playing it!: The most obvious one and what we like most, play whenever we can. To do so, we present a monthly calendar of games on the 15th of every month, open to every person willing to join, as a player or as a referee. We have also organized some online solidary days in times of COVID and we collaborate with other causes like the Marató Solidària held this year.
  • Highlighting and normalizing it!: Something as easy as broadcasting games through Twitch or recording and uploading them to YouTube allows us to promote our hobby to newbies and to many fans with the habit of playing in Spanish, and to dismantle topics associated to doing it in our language.
  • Translating and creating it!: Tirant has a subgroup with nearly 40 users devoted to translate and create materials. Currently we are working to translate Cthulhu d100 by Shadowlands, which we hope to be ready by summer of 2022, and virtual tabletop Roll20, which is in great part available in Catalan. Some of our members have also translated Foundry VTT to Catalan, the Savage Worlds system and many modules of this platform. And regarding creations, we haven't our own yet, but we often find people with motivation like the creators of Bestioles e Brivalls or Forja, supporting them with publicity, organizing online samples of their games, etc.
  • Publishing: Well, yes. As we said Tirant dont have his own material yet, but there's a publication we are particularly proud of. It's the Tirant lo drac, our own Sant Jordi's free magazine, for which we will soon publish the second issue.
  • Cataloguing it!: There are many good quality roleplaying works in Internet, so we at Tirant had also wanted to publicize it in our links, in order that, bit by bit, we would have a catalogue with the things we have in Catalan, from roleplaying games, character sheets or adventures and even groups broadcasting their stories.
  • Talking about it!: Needless to say, we also talk about it in our networks, either at Twitter, where we have those who know what they are talking about, or at Instagram, where we have the monkeys making memes like crazy.
  • Boost it!: We have many fronts to promote roleplaying in Catalan language, but lately one which we are very pleased about had been to ally with the good people at Catarsi and SCCFF, and fantastic sponsors like Maqui Edicions, Edicions SECC or Gigamesh to organize a contest of roleplaying stuff in Catalan bearing very interesting fruits, and soon you will find them in a special issue of this gorgeous magazine.
  • Raffle it: Periodically we make raffles of stuff falling in our hands spreading the word and disseminating our activities or publications appearing in our language. Follow our networks to be aware of them!

Overall, Tirant lo dau wants foremost to create community and be a place to meet for roleplaying fans that want to play in Catalan and contribute to normalize playing with our language. If you are interested or curious follow us or peer into our Telegram. We are nearly 200 users with very good feelings and everybody is welcomed! See you soon, and let's the dice roll!

4 daus de 6

4d6 (Quatre daus de sis o 4dausde6) is an association from Barcelona active since 2018 devoted to entertainment, education and Catalan language popularization through roleplaying. With more than 100 episodes broadcasted in video and podcast, 4d6 extends through his roleplaying club, La Cadena, with nearly two hundred people around Catalonia. The current activists in the group are teachers, health and cinema professionals, focusing the project as a therapeutic and educational tool fostering inclusion, group cohesion and imagination as an instrument to intellectual development, while helping to normalize Catalan language use in audiovisual field and social networks, being this the reason to actively participate in social campaigns like La Marató de TV3 and Game to Grow.

Enrolats

Enrolats is a group of friends of Baix Montseny that roleplays live in twitch. Every week we play our fantasy campaign with the Pathfinder system, with a game with a duration of a year and sessions available in YouTube, although we prefer the live emissions, where you can interact with us with channel points affecting our rolls or naming NPC. We also play oneshots periodically and also create maps live with Inkarnate. We are very lucky to count with Nuria, our illustrator, who makes drawings of all the players' characters. We hope to see you live, this season we play sundays afternoon!
