Crowdfunding of Sturm und Drang and Tesoro y Gloria

In today's post I will talk about two crowdfundings I'm sure you will find interesting: Sturm und Drang and Tesoro y Gloria

In fact it isn't the first time I talk about Sturm und Drang (Storm and Impetus), as I published a post of the first try to carry it out during past July (as you may well know if you follow my blog or read the linked post), and in the Youtube play list heading this section you will find a set of videos talking about it, as well as film, television series, documentaries and computer games trailers you will find inspiring.

This crowdfunding by Grupo Creativo La Marca del Este has the goal of funding the supplement enlarging the Second World War timeline of the Walküre role-playing game and publish a set of adventures happening then and beyond.

Walküre it's a game based in Alternate History and Counterfactual history with the Second World War timeline changed, because the war ends in a stalemate in 1944 and since then there's a Cold War between the Axis (Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Japanese Empire), the Allies (Great Britain and United States of America) and the Communist Block (Soviet Union and China Popular Republic).

If you want to know more about the game you can read the review I wrote in this post and download the book in pdf file from the website of Grupo Creativo La Marca del Este

Focusing now on the content of this supplement patrons will receive a book with the following characteristics and contents:
  • A full colour book bound in hardcover with an approximate length of 400 pages.
  • Prologue by Juan Antonio Herreros Lucas, responsible of Ediciones Sombra and writer of the role-playing game Comandos de Guerra (also set during the Second World War).
  • A Second World War chronology adapted to Walküre uchrony based in academic sources to carry out the developing of a realistic scenario.
  • A very detailed compendium of weapons, land vehicles (like armored vehicles), aerial vehicles (fighters, bombers, transport planes) and sea vehicles (like some warships classes).
  • A great number of photographs to illustrate the book contents, including not well-known historical photographs, licensed photographs and full color illustrations.
  • Full color maps showing the state of battle fronts in Europe and Asia in 1944.
  • Game statistics fon diferent character types, weapons and vehicles using the CdB Engine ruleset (cerated by Zonk PJ).

In addition to everything that I have already explained about the book of Sturm und Drang patrons also will have the chance to access various stretch goals and addonsamong which I would like to highlight the following:
  • The chance to get the Walküre manual in pocket size as a softcover book, printed in black and white but without illustrations, to be used as a reference manual in the gaming table (take into acount that the basic book of the game is discontinued in its printed version).
  • The chance to receive in digital format all the future adventures of the Walküre line (available in all levels of the crowdfunding).
  • The chance of receiving in physical format the following adventures as crowdfunding goals as the amount collected increases:

Walküre pocket book

Ucieczka z Sobiboru

Objective: Burma!

Les Marguerites Fleuriront ce Soir

Địa đạo Củ Chi (Los Túneles de Cu-Chi)

Katanga 235

Цинк (Zinc)

Leaving aside all I have explained about this crowdfunding I also would like to recommend it because being the text and part of the image contents presented under a CC BY-SA license it gives permission to all people willing to create derived works includding commercial ones (the book's pdf will be liberated with the campaign's ending and all the supplements delivered to patrons), so this allows the creation of adventures, games or other didactic works given the encyclopedic character of Sturm und Drang (in fact I believe that the ruleset of the postapocalyptic game fRáGiL, of which I also had been a patron of its printed edition and of ehich I'm preparing a review, could also be ideally used with Walküre/Sturm und Drang).

If you want to see more possibilities about the use of Walküre with other games you may read the blog post Crossovers and Shared Universes in which I analyzed how to use Walküre with Spirit of the Century or La Puerta de Ishtar.

CC-BY-SA

To finish this first part I ask you to support the crowdfunding and spread it, because it will allow the line to go on and publish in the future new supplements and adventures.

In the second part of this post I will talk about the crowdfunding of the role-playing game Tesoro y Gloria (which is also in Patreon), created by Telmo Arnedo, Imanol Etxebarria, Jagoba Lekuona and Pablo García Ganter among many other people contributing their bit regarding game mechanics and setting.

The game, as you can see in the previous Youtube playlist, has aroused great expectation in the Spanish role-playing scene getting the minimal funds for publishing it and pointing to achieve several goals, beign well received by referees and players, leading to reviews of it and interviews with the writers as can be read in this posts of the blogs Un Paladín en el Infierno and Martillo de los Dioses

Cover

Let's see which details make Tesoro y Gloria had make a so good impression and good reception (which you may read downloading the Spanish language free pdf ruleset available in their website):
  • First of all it shows a healthy humour sense, because it plays at all times with topics of fantasy games (see for example the sigh of resignation of the ranger when he sees that he will have to go back to guide the group that has been confused and does not know how to distinguish between east and west) and others present in popular culture of the 20th century (have you recognized certain characters and objects from films in the art pages of the game?).
  • Although when reading the manual you quickly find some classical concepts from Dungeons & Dragons first edition still being kept (like character classes: Cleric, Fighter, Thief, Magic User, Ranger, etc.) they wanted to update the body of rules, so we will find the following:
    • Each character has an Attack Dice (AD) (Dado de Ataque or DA in the original) depending on their class:
      • This AD will be low in character classes used to combat (AD 10 in classes like the fighter or the dwarf) and high in more clumsy classes (AD 20 in classes like the magic user and the kobold)
      • If attacking the character obtains an outcome lower than the Armor Class (AC) (Clase de Armadura or CA in the original) of the enemy he will be successful and he will have impacted
      • The base AC of humans is 10, to this number add the modifier from Dexterity (ranging from -2 to +3) and the modifier for the type of protection beared (a leather jacket will have AC -2, a complete set of plate armor will have AC -6, etc.)
      • AD can be affected by Advantages and Disadvantages during combat, so it can improve or worsen (increase or decrease) as can be seen in the following table

        d20 d12 d10 d8 d6 d4
        ⇚ ⇚ ⇚ ⇚ ⇚ ⇚ Worse Better ⇛ ⇛ ⇛ ⇛ ⇛ ⇛ ⇛

      • So a fighter having an advantage of AD -1 in an attack will use d8 onstead of d10
      • Definitely, it's better for the character that AD and AC to be low so it would be much easier to hit the oponent and protect himself
    • Críticoal outcomes when impacting the enemy are done by the damage code of the weapon used and if the maximum damage is inflicted, so if a sword has a damage die code 1d6 and the player gets 6 when rolling he has done a Critical hit, so he can roll again the weapon's damage and add this to that 6
    • Weapons and armour also have Hardness score indicating how much damage can receive before getiing destroyed or unusable:
      • Armor Hardness points can be used by characters to resist Critical damage (spending a point of Hardness avoids the second damage roll)
      • Every time the weapon impacts with a Critical hit also lose 1 Hardness point (Hardness points of weapons depend on the maximum damage of the die, so a sword with damage 1d6 has 6 hardness points, an axe with damage 2d6 has 12 Hardness points, etc.)
    • The game also has the possibility of Saving Throws:
      • These depend on Stats and its initial value is equal to half the stat rounding down
      • To be successful with a Saving Throw it's necessary to roll 1d20 and obtain a number equal or less than the corresponding stat
      • Each Character class has access to two particular Saving Throws, so as an example in the case of a fighter these will be Strength and Constitution and in case of a cleric Wisdom and Charisma
      • When characters improve due to their Fame they increase all Saving Throws (those of their classes and those than not) in 1 point
    • Characters also have access to Proficiencies, i.e. skills in which they specially stand out and which depend on their stats (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma):
      • To be successful using them it's necessary to obtain in 1d20 a score equal or less than the score of the stat on which the Proficiency depends
      • It can also be possible that characters have a high degree of competence using a Proficiency, in this case is said they have mastery, so they will have an automatic success using it
    • In addition to proficiencies each character class also have access to Talents: Special capabilities of the chatacter to carry out a given action
      • Prestige Talents are achieved when character's Fame increases
      • Loyalty Talents are obtained thanks to being loyal to organizations or patrons
    • Regarding the Magic system both Sorcery (casting spells of diferent types) as well as Devotion (the belief in deities and use of invocations in the Dominions they manage) exist
    • Characters advance accumulating Glory, this depends on the diferent encounter types (discoveries, challenges, combat with monstes, obtaining treasure, etc.), i.e. equivalent to experience points of other similar games. Accumulating Glory character's Fame also increases
  • Leaving aside all I have already explained about game mechanics the basic book also have a series of chapters and apendices describing Non Playing Characters and Monsters, all tasks related to Exploration, activities to carry out between adventures (speand the treasure earned in adventures, partying and getting drunk, etc.), the equipment characters may obtain and gods of the setting

Tesoro y Gloria

In addition to everything that I have already explained the crowdfunding of Tesoro y Gloria also intends to make available to participants some adventures and the Codex Prodigium, a supplement devoted to extend the number of creatures the referee can use in his adventures.

Codex Prodigium

This game also has a CC BY-SA license as well as Walküre, so you may create derived games and new worlds as you wish (and I know that there are already people who are doing it).

CC-BY-SA

And to finish, if you like Tesoro y Gloria I recommend you to participate in the crowdfunding and spread it.
