Black Box: La Llamada de los dioses - Session 31

As always remember you may find spoilers, so if you are playing the campaign or think about playing it you probably do not want to read more beyond this point (or perhaps you want, who knows).

To write the chronicle of this session I was helped by Alex, who acted as assistant chronicler during its development.

Characters continued to investigate the tunnels of the underground refuge of the evil followers of the dark god Penumbra and finally reached a cave with a lake in the middle, surrounded by fog which with the prevailing darkness made it difficult to see inside.

While deciding what to do they heared echos of a feminine voice resonating in the cave encouraging them to go into the lake... Something they obviously didn't because paladin Alanna had detected that the creature calling them was of chaotic nature, so the group decided to go around and went into another cave where they found 3 tombstones with the names Euthore, Eugentum y Euklice engraved in them.

The group obviously suspected that evil undead creatures could be buried in the tombs before them and that these would arise to attack them when removing the tombstones (as it was), but Flynn the cleric was able to right away expel the mummies without these having an opportunity to act (thereby gaining treasure 💰 and objects that ended up inside Mary Poppins bag 👜).

After destroying the mummies they double back and went back to the underground lake's cave and, after looking into the dark waters, didn't dare to go into them. Right then they discovered a naked girl of great beauty 😳 which seemed to gracefully float over the water and whose voice bewitched Flynn and Alanna and kept them from acting. Then the girl was revealed as what se really was: a harpy who quickly pounced over Luna with unflattering intentions, but the half-elf quickly brought down it. After overcoming the creature and discovering that the harpy walked over the water thanks to a magic ring (which the group awarded to Alanna) they also realized the lake could have been a death trap if they went inside it, because they soon saw the wake of a creature akin to a great sea serpent while it sailed its waters.

The group (with the aid of the map of the underground complex they had discovered in previous sessions) went to the nearest caves they hadn't investigated yet and end up finding some nests covered in spiderwebs which didn't pose any problem for them even if they were attacked by spiders and tarantulas.

They went forward to investigate a stone bridge over an abyss of burning lava and discovered in one of its ends a mess of corpses which, when approaching, came alive and revealed as its keeper: a flesh golem which began to approach them, with its many mouths screaming and its crazed eyes staring at them 😱 while preparing to attack brandishing a pair of maces, although it didn't finished them and the group managed to get the victory (and no, a flesh golem isn't an undead creature as some of the players guessed).

After this rather disgusting encounter characters continued exploring and reached the entrance of a cave closed with a door. The frame of the said door was decorated with motifs praising Penumbra carved in the rock and coming from inside the cave was possible to hear the sound of voices talking... Which soon stopped when the door opened and appeared a dark elf (no, no the group's arch-enemy), who surely had heared them while they tried to get what was happening on the other side of the door.

In the combat that ensued then the enemy side counted with the presence of another dark elf and two penumbra clerics which quickly tried to attack them with separate Cause Fear spells (and failed), doing little against Alanna's accurate blows and the fireball 🔥 which the half-elf magician Belacqua rolled on the ground against them, which helped her companions Luna and Hassba the assassin.

When the combat was over the group entered the cave (Flyyn opened the door with a kick trusting not to activate any trap) and saw a room decorated with colorful tapestries and, besides the treasure 💰 of their fallen enemies, 2 potions to heal critical wounds and another one to remove paralysis wich surely will be useful in the future.

They decided to take a break in the room and baricated the door establishing guard shifts to avoid to be surprised by any patrol deciding to inspect the zone, which happened in the last shift when a patrol of 4 orcs made its appearance, but the characters quickly defeated them (more treasure 💰 and experience).

Once recovered they continued to explore the tunnels and caverns, discovering in one of them what seemed to be a great number of pools flooding the cave with water and detecting there some kind of giant amoeba (to which they decided not to disturb).

They continued marching on and finally reached another cave with an ogre and a great number of orcs in what looked like a guard post (surely it was the place from which the orc patrol they had fought before was coming), so they decided to quickly face them in combat and again became the winners (especially because something happened that had already happened other times: some of their antagonists began to bleed from eyes and nose...).

After the combat and having got their fallen enemies treasure 💰 the experience count confirmed the 🎉 level rise 🎉 of the paladin Alanna.
