Black Box: La Llamada de los dioses - Session 27

As always remember you may find spoilers, so if you are playing the campaign or think about playing it you probably do not want to read more beyond this point (or perhaps you want, who knows).

To write the chronicle of this session I was helped by Amaia, who acted as assistant chronicler during its development.

After liberating Lena, as this was the name of the strange girl they found in the library, of the influence of the misteryous being inside her (as seen in the previous session) she vividly expressed that she had no recollection of her past and that the only think she took for granted was she knew Luna.

Before going ahead with the mission entrusted by Eru (recover his trident), and still disturbed by the vision of the burning city painted in one of the chambers they had visited, they decided it would be timely to heal their wounds, so Flynn attended diligently Hassba, Belacqua and Luna while Lena was equipped with weapons and accoutrements given by Luna and Wooster so she wouldn't risk her life going with them while exploring caves and tunnels.

After attending these needs the group decided to rest before going ahead, so the quickly organised the relevant guard shifts allowing to rest and at the same time be aware of the appearance of possible enemies, something that didn't prevent that in Alanna`s shift she was forced to shout to wake up the group while a patrol of orcs, kobolds and an ogre was pouncing over her... Luckily the brawl was nothing more than a minor skirmish in which the characters' martial and magical abilities managed to overcome those of their enemies.

After the fray the group went back to the room with the mural paintings of the city burning to rest and staunch their wounds, moment in which Alanna, with her providential aptitude to Detect Evil, perceived how an unholy act was being carried out in a near cave. And so it was, because standing from the cave entrance the group could saw how an orc group was venerating a demonic statue with 2 big sapphires as eyes...

It was at this time when Hassba decided to do the best he can do, which is nothing other than stab his enemies in the back (after all, the character is of the Assassin class), but he dos a lot of noise and all the orcs there soon discover him, so a combat soon begins and Flynn, the young cleric, bless the group to be more effective in combat, but it seems the blessing isn't quite effective, so it seems the group will face a soewhat tough combat... Or not, because suddenly 9 of the orcs ready to combat the characters fell to the groud dead, with blood flowing from mouth, eyes and ears (something that had happened before 😀), allowing the group to confront the surviving orcs with a guaranteed success in a combat in which Alanna showed great resolution and courage when standing between the orcs and the rest of her companions.

Once the combat ended they searched the enemies' bodies and found a bag with a total of 480 gold coins (more experience points!), then looked at the maleficent statue the orcs were worshiping, but above all to the pair of sapphires that adorn its eyes (and yes, the illustration over this lines is an homage to the cover by David A. Trampier for the player's manual of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons). Flynn decided to cast a spell to Dispel Magic against the statue but it didn't seem to work and Wooster climbed to reach the head and use his sword to pry and remove the sapphires and, luckily, dodge the arrows that shot out of the eye sockets when removing the jewels. At this moment the anti-magic trap of the statue got deactivated (this is what hindered the action of the spells) and they obtained the sapphires with a value of 6,000 gold coins (i.e. more experience points).

After blinding the statue they carried on because Alanna continued to Detect Evil in an adjoining cavern, a cavern where orcs, kobolds and gnolls gathered in front of an altar with a Penumbra cleric reading a book which may be interesting... So they inmediatly decided to intervene and Belacqua casted the spell Sleep afecting the cleric, the orcs and one of the gnolls allowing the rest of the group to face the still awake enemies and quickly defeat them (afterwards they inmediately killed those affected by the spell).

Once defeated of course they also searched the corpses obtaining 970 gold coins (and more experience points) as well as 2 vials with potions to heal serious injuries and 1 vial with a potion to eliminate the effects of paralysis.

Regarding the book Hassba (who has accumulated enough experience points to level up 👏) discovered it to be poisoned, so it posed a danger to turn pages by touching them, but that did not stop Flynn to start to leaf through with the help of his sword while the rest of the group rested.
